My Method
My methods are a very important aspect of training that will monitor cardiovascular, structural and neuromuscular conditioning. Building durable athletes that race for years is in your best interest as a business. We see too many one year wonders in harness racing nowadays. I want to help change that.
Phase 1:
Phase 1 of 3 phases of conditioning begins with background mileage that will start the process of strengthening the chassis of your racing machine ( tendons, ligaments, bones, fascia and cartilage ). These structural and connective tissues require time and constant loading to properly strengthen. Moving into race specific work too soon is the most common mistake made by trainers today.
Phase 2:
Once a good foundation of mileage is achieved, exercise intensity is gradually increased, going into a second phase of cardiovascular conditioning. This is where the heart, lungs and vascular network are challenged and begin to handle extended high intensity workloads.
Phase 3:
Specificity in training. This is where the final touches are done, speedwork. Training for speed is the final step for the equine athlete. Interval training is effective as well as sprinting straightaways. I use a mixed approach as I keep going the same way for all intervals or sprints. This gives the horse endurance as well as high speed stamina.
If the young horse has the proper foundation when the equine body is the most adaptable to exercise, this could be the advantage you are looking for. A bomb proof Godzilla is what I want to build for you.
